It's amazing that I couldn't find a
quote on the value of putting many restaurants and hotels
together in the same place, but just like a mall has a food
court, the value of collaboration is higher than the value of
standing out alone. It is common in the restaurant business
and the hotel business, that when you put them together in
reach of one another, they all do better.
I was trying to explain why FLOW (a
collaborative paradigm at its roots), can be seen literally
and figuratively as a way to promote Flawless Living, and in
doing so, I saw the TPOV that most people don't realize, until
you look around.
Why do restaurants locate together?
Why do you find hotels usually in
one spot?
Why do car dealers line up with
each other?
It's the counter-intuitive notion
that these businesses will do better together, than they will
by establishing their own turf.
And we can take that simple TPOV,
and extend that into everything FLOW is about, and that by
standing out, or standing alone, we do differentiate
ourselves, but that there is a counter-intuitive method that
actually makes us singly and as a group more attractive and
it's not done by independents, but by chains more often than
not.
Independence sure has it's appeal
to some of us, and we lack the counter-intuitive ideas that
interdependence offers.
While it's not necessary to change,
it is important to have the conversation, and change emerges
from that...conversation.
