TPOVs @F-L-O-W: WORK @BS is not the PROBLEM
Watch video at Video:
Paying People Not to Work
Ok, I'm going to do my best to suspend my own biases--from my
upbringing and acculturation @BS to give a set of remarks
@F-L-O-W that will create an immune response for most...but
nonetheless is an alternative way to perceive the root
problems.
1) the basic assumption which is NOT QUESTIONED in this
diatribe (video) is that WORK is the answer, and because it is
the answer, then it should be solved using x, y and z.
2) I would suggest that after 60 years, SOMEBODY might start
to think a little differently instead of doing the same things
over and over expecting different results.
3) the REASON poverty has remained at about 15% regardless of
the expenditures and programs is the best clue I can give you
that something is hard-wired and is NOT PLASTIC.
4) WORK @BS is NOT THE ANSWER!
5) Work is the answer for SOME people, it is "A" answer among
many @F-L-O-W.
6) IF FOR A MOMENT, you ask yourself, is WORK the problem? You
will see that WORK is not the problem. WORK and non-work are
noise covering up a much larger signal.
7) Brian Tracy said in his 21 Immutable Laws (or something
like that) the Law of Human Economy (or something like that),
that humans use the least amount of energy to get the most
amount of benefit.
8) WORK is NOT THE PROBLEM (it's worth repeating), and until
you see it as noise in a system as a dynamic that is
constantly in need of interpretation, you/me and we are headed
for trouble. In the next decade 50% of the jobs that require
declarative/horizontal skills are going to be automated, 25%
of those requiring cumulative/horizontal jobs are also out,
that eliminated jobs for about 5 billion people! This process
will create approximate 100 million new jobs, but most likely
with higher skill levels such as serial/oblique requirements.
9) THEREFORE, if work is the problem, we are in big trouble!
10) The problem is how we define purpose of living.
The purpose of living in each value basin is "defined,
designed, engineered and executed differently."
MOST people use WORK as a vehicle (means) to accomplish other
goals (ends).
Therefore MOST people are NOT MOTIVATED TO WORK, they work
because they see it as the only way to accomplish their goals,
as instructed by our "good" president who wants us all to
"work hard" as he has quoted in many of his speeches.
Working hard is a motivation for only 1-5% of the population,
which is why in most cases they do get ahead, albeit there are
many who live in the wrong place at the wrong time who don't.
I suggest the people who built the pyramids, the great wall,
the taj majal, the wonders at Alexandria and even the USA
Interstate highway system in the 50s "worked hard"...albeit
ceterus parabis, this may not have gotten ahead, so even
"working hard" is NOT the answer.
UNTIL we question the very foundation of the purpose of life,
we can keep trying to solve this welfare:work equation until
we are BLUE in the face, and never succeed!
If work is but ONE means to solve our motive ends, then what
are other ways?
Reiss did research on this and came up with 6 different paths
from page 148, WHO AM I?:
A N D H O W
W E S A T I S F Y T H E M
Happiness
Relationships Work Family
Sports Spirituality
----------------------
You can simply align them with:
Purple - Family
Red - Sports
Blue - Spirituality (he used that PC term, but he means
religiosity which also encompasses atheism as well and secular
pursuits)
Orange - Work
Green - Relationships
Yellow - Happiness* as designed @F-L-O-W
(*which btw means, alignment with one's inbornness, and may
not be "literally" pleasurable, as we relate to depression as
not always pleasure, but it could be categorized--among other
things--as "happiness @F-L-O-W")
if you like.
They are not a perfect match "without explanation" but a fair
comparison, which means that multiple systems of research
emerging at different times have discovered similar prime
elements, which of course are represented @F-L-O-W in various
ways.
Helpful Hint: WORK IS NOT THE PROBLEM!
Action Step: Use the 15 primes (12 are in the
Book @F-L-O-W) to create a 'bluprint' for your means
activities in service of your ends and enjoy the
ride...welfare or work, live @F-L-O-W
Afterword:
In the video, the author points out that 1 trillion is spent
on these "programs" for the non-working?
In a 13 trillion dollar economy, a little more than 10% for
15% of the people who are genetically guided to qualify for
welfare, by hook or crook is a pretty cheap price to pay for
votes, IMHO!
Now, you know the rest of the story.
Comments:
As a comment, I would say this infuriates those whose values
say that if you don't work, you don't eat, as I find myself
continually frustrated in this third world paradise with those
same memes only often--and slowly--to correct myself @F-L-O-W.
I realize how MUCH of the problem my thinking is and how much
real noise it creates to keep me (my bias) happy and futile it
is, all the while I rant and rave about how much money it
takes to support the "disadvantaged."
The way I am starting to see it, we are much better off when a
lot of people don't work as growth slows and the "limits to
growth" are in the distance, so if you want to give the poor
something to be proud of, instruct them how not joining the
rat race promotes well-being through decreasing the speed at
which we reach the limits to growth--go figure!
OUR PROBLEM IS NOT JOBS.
OUR PROBLEM IS THINKING THAT JOBS ARE THE PROBLEM!
We need to innovate about what it means to be a human and how
the workers drove the entire society to the farm, then to the
factory and now to the internet to fuel the rat race...and
like Lily Tomlin, our great philosopher phone girl says..."if
you win the rat race, you're still a rat!"
Unwinding how we got down this road is much more difficult
than continuing to provide horizontal solutions to problems
which we have created by WRONG thinking.
It's just like what is happening in world affairs now, we are
all asking questions about the WRONG things, hence our
behavior is developing more problems to solve, and for those
who solve problems for a living or a vice, it's a wonderland
which requires no verticality because we can stay in these
problem solving modes for centuries, as long as we have people
left I guess.
The key is to start to understand the diversity and value of
those who work, and those who don't work and the reasons why,
and that is getting to the "quick" for most and will be
exceedingly ouchy.
