"The only true wisdom is in knowing
you know nothing." Socrates
While it might be somewhat tongue
in cheek for someone like me to talk about Domains of Knowing,
I often use these ideas to explain things, so it's probably
important to discuss this set of ideas as a TPOV.
In this model, I outline a typical
2x2 matrix:
-know what you know
-know what you don't know
-don't know what you know
-don't know what you don't know
An idea I have is that over time,
the domain of what we don't know, we don't
know is actually increasing at a faster rate
than before, because of a variety of notions I have about how
the universe relates to time--acceleration, etc. and because
of the unfolding of complexity.
I don't think you can evaluate this
model literally, but in a figurative notion, the idea I have
is this:
If we can see that as fast as we
learn, the faster we need to know more, we can begin to let go
of the notion, that we can keep up.
As SOON as we do this, a whole
other set of assumptions become more important, such as, why
are we here, who are we, and what is this human experience,
anyway.
If we get pulled into the BS
gambit, that the more we learn, the smarter we are, we fall
into the trap of the RED QUEEN, which is summarized (by me) as
the faster we go, the faster we need to go model. You can
google it for more info.
These days, the more we learn, the
more vulnerable we are to our own arrogance.
We are out of control, and the more
we seek control, the more decisions we make that are most
likely unsustainable, because those "control" decisions are
made with faux assumptions about how the world is.
Yet, we are not going to just throw
our hands up and say, surrender...at least most won't; I have
faith that the Fanatically Passionless might have a better
seat in the "show."
Most of us are going to draw a
circle around us, maybe several and work with those
assumptions, which makes sense to them. To me, that has to be
ok, but there are going to be consequences because this domain
of what we don't know, we don't know is going to accelerate
dramatically, and we are going to become less and less
important in the game...we already are.
Once we reach this stage, perhaps
life will be different, I'm not there, nor am I sure of
anything.
For now, I think it's important that we don't take
ourselves too serious, and while our
inbornness will guide us--mostly
unconsciously, by design--we'll pick and choose (filter) those
things that we deem important and to me, that has to at will
be.be ok, even as diverse and sometimes dysfunctional as that
might be. |
