DATA DYNAMICS

[From wikipedia: Inflection Point = ] In differential calculus, an inflection point, point of inflectionflex, or inflection (inflexion) is a point on a curve at which the curvature or concavity changes sign from plus to minus or from minus to plus. The curve changes from being concave upwards (positive curvature) to concave downwards (negative curvature), or vice versa. If one imagines driving a vehicle along a winding road, inflection is the point at which the steering-wheel is momentarily "straight" when being turned from left to right or vice versa.

I copied this chart from the many choices (google 'inflection point' and select 'images') I saw illustrated what I believe has already occurred and now is emerging in many ways, as connectivity and patterns, and data become part of the new "energy and information" is transducing from things, to no-things.http://gregreeder.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/hello-world/

We are entering a world where our filters and biases are going to be data, not the truth...

A CONVERGENCE of meaning, matter (structure), patterns (form), and sense-making constituting the basis for aliveness, now coupled with the democratization of technology--resulting connectivity--and the acceleration of transduction--the conversion of one form of energy (largely fossil fuel), into another (largely ideas used in innovation)...or thought, which is engaged in the recognition of data, the regulation of the data into signal and noise categories, where the data becomes part of our experience, as a part of Chris Aryris Ladder of Inference.

With transduction, energy and information, as we know it in the quantum world is becoming alive.

The implications of this simple equation are beyond our current imagination's capability because we only have what we know to work with, not what we can imagine, and what that imagination can provide in the future.

This inflection point is key to notice because we need to begin to look at and establish new ways of acquiring, visualizing and imagining data dynamically. A new form of dynamic, which I am naming DATA DYNAMICS, (when searching I couldn't come up with a definition out there, except one being applied in software development.).

This inflection point is important to understand because there are assumptions either side of the shift in direction, which are important to understand, model and simulate, and all of this is about the recognition and regulation of data, or data dynamics. Analytics, which uses, models and analyzes data is key, and what we see here in the following examples is a new form of data modeling that begins to question the very structure of how we recognize and "regulate" data in systems.
Helpful Hint: Data Dynamics are going to allow us to start to manipulate, the manipulated, the meta pattern of data itself must be dynamic, questioned and modeled, before we can even get to the dynamics of the system, which is where energy and information is transducing, whether it be cells carrying information, DNA storing information and through transduction moving information through generations and culture, data dynamics are going to become critical to the new set of assumptions on the otherside of complexity.
Action Step:  Argyris pointed out a significant difference between data and verifiable data. Using Data Dynamics to understand how sense is made is key to crossing the divide from data to verifiable data.

Ideas on surveying, turn to DATAVisualization--from things, to no things--ideas, knowledge, scaffolding, as Data Dynamics.
