"Face reality as it is, not as it
was or as you wish it to be." Jack Welsh
I want to demonstrate why Happiness
AND Success are two discreet models, and while I won't discuss
it here, the third space, or gap that emerges is also
of the most critical importance to designing FLOS
Applications.
Business Reality Doesn't Care About
You.
I've stated this since I began
professional coaching back in 1988.
The reason is to try to get people
to think of Business Reality as a set of laws, notions and
heuristics based on physical, economic, political, and
whatever other domain you would like to add, representing
finite laws of how things work, and don't work.
This doesn't mean, that I don't
think Business Reality should care about you. It just means
that if you confuse gravity with the emotion of gravity, you
still obey gravity's rules, no matter what you feel about it.
Where gravity applies, you are subject.
Entiendes? or what my
grandfather used to say...(I think it was from German and it's
pronounced phonetically...seesta veesta gooks...maybe mark can
help me with my bad German) both of which mean... Do you get
it?
Do YOU UNDERSTAND?
Happiness, while vested with many
physical, economical, and political properties doesn't base
itself in these laws of business, unless of course you are one
of the 1 - 5% who match up well. Believe me, there are
truly that 1% who do!
It's doesn't mean you are bad, or
good, or whatever, it's just that you have to be detached
enough from your own lens to notice that the lens of business
reality is there and working for, or against you.
This is the reason so many people
fail in business.
They confuse who they are, with
what business requirements are.
MANY times in the past few years, I
have come to realize the differences in my own life and
happiness; How those don't match up well to business reality.
In fact, few of us do match up well.
We need help. We need a group
or team to collaborate with and we need ways in which to
understand that business reality is what it is. If you
violate those rules things happen and a lot of the time, they
are not "good" and we are unfit.
The "organization" was actually a
prescribed scaffolding that was created where we could be
embedded with our narrow, but important KSEs.
Regarding people who outlie from
directly participating in the design of business reality, the
poor, the ignorant, the disadvantaged; we can't just give them
resources... we buy them books and they eat the pages...an
old phrase from my childhood, that is probably
discombobulated. But it always pops up when we start trying
to teach pigs to sing... Annoying them, and finding out that
pigs are not designed to sing!
YET, we have programs in place
everywhere, and we mismatch the ideas from our lens
with their capabilities, individual or cultural; finding we
get no traction out of resource allocation.
WHY?
Business Reality doesn't care about
you, or your ideas, or them.
It just is.
Violate the laws, even under
well-intended, well-meant, and gracious giving, and it doesn't
matter.
The WORST feeling I have these
days, is to have allocated so many resources to people who
were improperly scaffolded, inappropriately enabled, and
incorrectly matched with those resources; to end up providing
fish, rather than having very many fishermen after the
allocation.
There is nothing so demanding as
the problems of the poor, ignorant and disadvantaged as to
elevate to a high level, the absolute necessity of help, only
to find yourself lost in the noise of poverty....
