What is Affect?
“Affect is a concept used in psychology to describe the experience of feeling or emotion, the word “affect” as a noun being seldom used in other fields. In psychology, affect mediates an organism’s interaction with stimuli.” — Wikipedia
First, I’m not a psychologist, I’m a Developmentalist and I’ve found that how you lead “affects” others because of the felt affect of your behaviors.
If those feelings or emotions you create as Personal Affect are negative, and you create negative feelings or emotions — very long — you will not last long as a leader.
While you are unconscious to your own affect and what creates it — triggered by stimuli — your actions trigger others subconsciously as well. Many call this management of emotions and feelings in others emotional intelligence… but it boils down to AFFECT.
You will come to know yourself and others will come to know you through AFFECT, which emerges from your core behaviors — mostly when you’re not really investing your ATTENTION in how those behaviors affect others.
Understand what affect you create with your behaviors,
Mike R Jay, Developmentalist
